#380 Findings & Impressions- Stellar Kim

#380 Findings & Impressions- Stellar Kim

This piece is written in an interesting form. Sean Miller is a Radiologist, he takes stock of his situation in the form of a patient’s medical chart. He rarely takes part in the side of the medical world that has to treat or explain illness to patients. He tests them, and sends his analysis to an MD who takes care of the patient. This one time, a woman he just tested with breast cancer, Alicia, comes directly to him. He doesn’t have anyone else in her life and they get close.

Sean’s wife died suddenly a few years ago and left him with a son. He is used to seeing death, but unlike cancer, there was no process to his wife’s dying. He is unsure how to explain everything to his son. As he and Alicia get closer, her disease spreads. Sean has always been able to predict which patients will survive and which ones will not. When he pulls away from Alicia, we see how her path will end.

Notable Passage: “When she walks away, all she leaves is a bloody boot print.”
